The Working Mind

A Mental Health First Aid Australia program that helps workplaces build a culture where mental health is understood and supported.

The Working Mind is a workplace mental health program from Mental Health First Aid Australia. It focuses on workplace culture: understanding mental health, reducing stigma, and building the skills to cope with stress, so that mental health is talked about openly rather than only managed when someone is struggling.

There are two versions: a 5-hour course for employees, and an 8-hour course for managers that adds a module on supporting your team. Both can be delivered face-to-face at your workplace or online by video conference, and the content can be tailored to your organisation.

What it covers

  • Understanding mental health. Using the Mental Health Continuum Tool to notice signs of good, declining and poor mental health in yourself and your colleagues.
  • Psychological safety. Making it easier to talk about mental health at work, openly and without judgement.
  • Stigma. Challenging attitudes and encouraging respectful, informed approaches across teams and leadership.
  • Stress and resilience. Learning and practising simple coping strategies for times of stress.
  • Supporting your team (managers only). Practising the skills to support your team’s mental health and wellbeing, and knowing what action to take.

The Working Mind and Mental Health First Aid are designed to work together. The Working Mind builds a supportive culture around mental health, and Mental Health First Aid gives staff the skills to respond when a colleague is in distress.

Pricing depends on what your organisation needs and is confirmed on enquiry.
