No referral is required, however if you have a Mental Health Care Plan from a GP, you may be able to claim some costs through Medicare.

Your therapist will listen attentively to whatever you would like to share. It can be helpful to start with “What brings you to therapy now?”

If you have a mental health care plan from your GP, you are eligible to claim up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. Medicare currently provides a rebate of approximately $97 per visit, up to a maximum of 10 individual sessions per calendar year. No rebate is available for couples counselling, however you may also claim up to 10 sessions of eligible group therapy.

Sessions are 50 minutes long. Sometimes your therapist will discuss a different model of therapy with you; perhaps more frequent but shorter sessions (typically 30 minutes) two – three times a week, or sometimes a longer session may be recommended to work through more content (e.g. 90 minutes).

We cannot obtain your previous records without your consent. However, it is often best to start afresh from where you are today and what brought you in to seek therapy now, rather than reading what your sessions were about back then. If you have a GP referral, they will often make a note of your presenting situation or symptoms, however this is not necessary to begin therapy. Your experienced therapist will begin assessing where you are now and work collaboratively with you to identify your goals.

Yes we do, however places are limited for assessments as these can be quite time consuming. You will be asked to schedule a series of appointments at the time of booking to ensure that all data and diagnostic criteria can be assessed and recorded in a timely manner.

Assessments can be provided for ADHD, personality, school readiness, cognitive and academic assessments. Cognitive assessments assess individual intellectual capacity; without reading or writing. Academic assessmentsor an Achievement assessment identifies your academic strengths and weaknesses; that is your ability in all academic areas e.g. reading, writing, maths, school readiness etc.

Assessment and diagnostic formulation sessions are not covered by Medicare and are charged separately, with several sessions required to gather all required data. Please contact us to receive more information regarding the structure, process and fees.
